EFFECTIVENESS OF SUBTALAR MOBILISATION ON PAIN AND RANGE OF MOTION ON PLANTAR FASCIITIS PATIENT- A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
Background: Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, especially in individuals who stand for long periods or have poor foot mechanics. It is characterized by pain at the bottom of the heel, particularly during the first steps in the morning. Limited mobility of the subtalar joint can affect foot movement and increase stress on the plantar fascia. Subtalar mobilisation is a physiotherapy technique used to improve joint mobility, reduce pain, and restore normal foot function. Methodology: This case report included a patient with plantar fasciitis who presented with heel pain and restricted foot movement. Baseline assessment was done using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) for pain and goniometric measurement for ankle and subtalar range of motion (ROM). The patient received subtalar mobilisation techniques along with stretching of the plantar fascia and calf muscles and strengthening exercises for foot muscles. The treatment was given three times per week for four weeks. Outcome measures were reassessed after completion of the intervention. Results: After four weeks of treatment, the patient showed a clear reduction in heel pain and improvement in foot mobility. NPRS scores decreased significantly, indicating pain relief. Range of motion at the ankle and subtalar joint improved, which helped in better walking and daily activities. Conclusion: The findings of this case report suggest that subtalar mobilisation is effective in reducing pain and improving range of motion in patients with plantar fasciitis. It can be used as a simple and effective treatment option in physiotherapy management. However, further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to support these results.
