PHYSIOTHERAPY REHABILITATION FOR PREMENOPAUSAL WOMEN’S BONE HEALTH: REVIEW OF LITERATURE

ABSTRACT

Background: Premenopausal women represent a crucial population for optimizing peak bone mass and preventing future osteoporosis. Sedentary lifestyle, nutritional deficiencies, and hormonal variations can negatively impact bone health even before menopause. Physiotherapy-based rehabilitation, including weight-bearing and resistance exercises, plays a key role in maintaining bone mineral density (BMD) and overall musculoskeletal health. Aim: To review the effectiveness of physiotherapy rehabilitation in improving bone health among premenopausal women. Objectives: To analyze the impact of different physiotherapy interventions on BMD, and to evaluate improvements in muscle strength and functional capacity, and (3) to identify effective exercise protocols for bone health maintenance. Materials and Methods: A review of literature was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Studies published in the last 10–15 years focusing on physiotherapy interventions in premenopausal women were included. Keywords related to bone health, exercise therapy, and physiotherapy were used. Both randomized controlled trials and observational studies were analyzed. Conclusion: Physiotherapy interventions, particularly weight-bearing, resistance, and balance exercises, significantly contribute to improving bone health, muscle strength, and functional performance in premenopausal women. Early implementation of structured rehabilitation programs can help in maximizing peak bone mass and reducing future risk of osteoporosis. Regular physical activity combined with proper lifestyle modifications is essential for long-term bone health.
