EFFECTIVENESS OF PHYSIOTHERAPY INTERVENTION THROUGHOUT THE DIFFERENT PHASES OF MENOPAUSE: A SCOPING REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Background: An important milestone in women’s lives is the shift from reproductive to post-reproductive life. Menopause is a period defined by 12 continuous months of amenorrhea usually occurring between the ages of 45 and 55. The menopause transition has different stages that can come with a variety of symptoms and physiological changes. The effectiveness of different physiotherapy interventions to alleviate these changes has been examined in this review. Methodology: A literature search of PubMed, google scholar and research gate was conducted for studies evaluating various physiotherapy interventions in menopause, published between 2019 and 2023.  Result: The review’s inclusion criteria were met by 30 studies and types of interventions, sample sizes, and methodologies used in the included research varied. Physical therapy approaches have been demonstrated to enhance quality of life outcomes for women in post menopause. Conclusion: In this study, physiotherapy has been shown to have effective applications during and after menopause. Use of various interventions during menopausal transition can significantly improve quality of life and decrease effect of menopausal symptoms.
