PHYSICAL PARAMETERS AND DISABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH FUNCTIONAL PES PLANUS IN COLLEGE STUDENTS: A CROSS – SECTIONAL STUDY

ABSTRACT

Pes Planus, commonly referred to as flatfoot, is a prevalent condition characterized by the reduction or collapse of the foot’s medial longitudinal arch (MLA), resulting in partial or complete contact of the sole with the ground. This study aimed to explore the correlation between physical parameters and disability among college students with functional Pes Planus. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Research Centre, involving 92 participants meeting predefined inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Navicular Drop Test and Plantar Arch Index, with disability assessed using the Foot and Ankle Disability Index (FADI). Statistical analyses revealed a positive correlation between the plantar arch index score and the foot and ankle disability score, indicating a significant association between physical parameters and disability in this population. Moreover, the study found that functional Pes Planus may substantially impact an individual’s quality of life, potentially increasing functional limitations due to foot pain and susceptibility to foot injuries and disorders. These findings have significant implications for clinical practice and future research, highlighting the importance of considering physical parameters in managing and understanding disabilities associated with functional Pes Planus.
